Scouting’s National Honor Society, the Order of the Arrow (OA), recognizes Scouts and Scouters who live the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. For over 100 years, the OA has celebrated those who lead through cheerful service, a love of the outdoors, and a commitment to others. As a vital part of Scouting America, the OA offers peer-led leadership opportunities, meaningful service projects, and outdoor adventures that strengthen character and build lifelong friendships. Members are united by fellowship, service, and a shared commitment to making a positive impact in their communities.

All candidates are voted in by their Troop members and must meet all requirements.
Ordeal (Induction)
The Ordeal is the first step into the Order of the Arrow. During this unique experience, candidates practice silence, eat simple meals, complete camp service projects, and sleep apart from others. These challenges are designed to teach the values of selflessness, reflection, and service. All candidates must complete the Ordeal to become members.
Brotherhood Membership
After at least 10 months of service as an Ordeal member, Scouts may seal their membership by completing the Brotherhood ceremony. This step deepens their commitment to the principles of the Order and signifies full membership.
Vigil Honor
The Vigil Honor is the highest recognition in the Order of the Arrow. After two years of exceptional service as a Brotherhood member, Scouts and Scouters may be nominated for this rare distinction. Selection is limited (only one Vigil for every 50 lodge members each year) and recognizes those who have given outstanding service to their lodge, the OA, Scouting, or their camp.
